5,000 Hours

That’s the magic number. Five thousand. Five, comma, zero, zero zero sets of sixty minutes. Which is also roughly 209 full days. Yes, the breakdown of 5,000 hours.⠀

HOURS TO SUCCESS

Statistically, it takes an average of 5,000 hours of hard work on your craft before you return a profit and can start living off of it. This isn’t specific to your certain industry either. This is across the board. In all professions of entrepreneurship. Also, this isn’t to be confused with Malcolm Gladwells 10,000 hour theory. ⠀⠀

Five thousand hours of hard work is equivalent to about two and a half years putting in 40 hours a week. Most of us don’t have 40 hours a week for it. Full time jobs, kids, relationships, other obligations curtail that timeframe quite a bit. Maybe you can only put in 10 hours a week. Mentally prepare yourself then for up to 10 years of hard work and dedication. 5 hours a week ? That’s a smooth two full decades for you to look forward to.⠀

KNOW YOUR WHY

This is why your ‘WHY’ is so important. Your ‘WHY’ is the reason in which you are doing what you do. Your ‘WHY’ is whatever wakes you up and drives you to become a better person. If you don’t know WHY you want to open that boutique, that restaurant, that record label, that school… or if your ‘why’ is only surface level… “I want more money,” “I want a vacation in Aruba,” “I want to make my ex jealous.” You’re not going to make it. It has to be stronger and deeper than that.
